THIRD BRIDGE/ 2015

Collaborative Project with Deirdre Power

In Space and Place: The Perspective of Experience, Yi-Fu Tuan contends that space requires a movement from one place to another place. Similarly, a place requires a space to be a place. The THIRD BRIDGE aimed to explore the physicality and movement of space from one place to another, represented through the lens of the photographic archive. This work reactivated the archived of DUSAA 5, a student collective, studying at the Limerick School of Art & Design. In 1983 we as activists/ students constructed a temporary bridge across the River Shannon exploring concepts of perceived space and investigating these public places and the local council’s inactive role in the city’s growth. Questions of space and place affect the very way in which we experience and recreate the world.
