Man Size

2012

The Phatory Gallery, New York, USA.

Man Size explores the ephemeral qualities of absence by engaging, through the juxtaposition of interaction and contemplation, its different components to highlight the transitional state of the present.

Triggered by the visitors’ presence within the gallery or by a push-button sensor mounted on the window, a row of wall-mounted rotors establishes an autonomous kinetic condition, a mechanical breath. Human movement in passing triggers minute changes. Adjusting to the dynamic of the room while accumulating traces of presence. Side by side two photographic portraits mark a moment past. A single figure in an aviation suit stands in the space, remaining captive in the dimensions of the room.
