Art Wall / commission by Bucholz McEvoy Architects for the new Civic Chambers Limerick County Council, Ireland/ 2003

The Limerick County Council Headquarters was designed by the architect Merritt Bucholz, this art commission functioned within the County Council Chamber’s incorporating slow-changing lux-levels of each day as its theme. The artwork’s relationship to the architecture is seen in the form of elliptic casts and is related to the curve of the building, hovering off the surface of the Chamber’s walls - giving a sense of harmony to a busy space in everyday use; each cast structure has its internal light source, which is controlled by a data harvester outside the building. The daylight levels are recorded and used as a live lux reading for the interior artwork. As night falls, the information stored during the day is played back and thus each daily light cycle gives the artwork a unique light score each evening.
